Overall Average

There is no single device-independent average for every reaction-time test. A calibrated 2015 study of 1,469 adults reported a mean simple visual reaction time of 231 ms before correcting measured hardware delay and 213 ms after correction. Browser tools use different displays, inputs, trial rules, and samples, so their distributions should not be treated as interchangeable norms.

Average Reaction Time by Age

Large studies find age-related differences, but the exact slope depends on the test. In the calibrated Woods et al. study, mean simple reaction time increased with age while the estimated stimulus-detection component remained comparatively stable. That does not justify assigning a biological age from one online score.

Average Reaction Time by Sport

Sport-specific reaction tasks differ from a one-button visual test. Published results should only be compared when stimulus, response, equipment, false-start rules, and participant selection are similar.

Average Reaction Time by Profession

We do not publish profession-by-profession millisecond rankings because we have not found one comparable, calibrated dataset that supports those precise claims across occupations.

Does Gender Affect Reaction Time?

Results differ by study and protocol. Woods et al. reported no significant effect of sex in their calibrated simple-reaction-time sample. We therefore avoid using sex as a score adjustment or presenting one universal gap.

Where Do You Rank?

This site does not currently operate a server-side population benchmark. Your result card therefore compares you only with your own locally saved sessions. Population percentiles will not be published until the sample, exclusions, devices, and calculation method can be documented.
