Start the sequence, wait while five red-light columns illuminate, then activate the test only after every light goes out. Early responses are jump starts.

Lights out, measured locally

Experience the five-light race start

This F1 reaction test puts you in a realistic driver-eye starting-grid view. Five red-light columns illuminate one by one, then disappear after a random hold. Your job is simple: wait for the lights to go out and react without guessing. Each response is timed locally with the browser's monotonic performance clock, so network round-trip time is not part of your score.

Watch all five lights

The sequence builds pressure deliberately. Do not tap to the rhythm—the hold after the fifth light changes on every start.

Avoid the jump start

Any touch, click, or key press before lights out invalidates the attempt. The round resets and the jump start stays on your session report.

Finish five clean starts

Your measured session score is the median of five valid launches, making it less dependent on one lucky or unusually slow response.

Measured time and estimated reflex

The result card shows two numbers. Browser measured is the direct interval between lights out and your input event. Estimated reflex subtracts a bounded device-delay model based on the detected input type and estimated display refresh interval. It is designed as a fun, optimistic view of your response—not a laboratory measurement.

The measured median remains visible for repeatable comparisons. Use the same phone, mouse, keyboard, screen, and browser when tracking improvement. If the tab loses focus or the page detects a major frame delay, that attempt is discarded instead of being adjusted after the fact.

How to improve your lights-out reaction

React—do not predict

A suspiciously fast single start often comes from anticipation. A strong session combines speed with five clean launches and a narrow spread.

Use short sessions

Run five starts, pause, then compare another complete session. Endless retries can increase tension and make the result less consistent.

Keep the setup fixed

Touchscreens, wireless devices, high-refresh monitors, browser load, fatigue, and attention can all move the measured number.

F1 reaction test questions

How does the F1 reaction test work?

Five red-light columns illuminate one by one. After a random hold, every light goes out at once. React only after lights out. An early response is recorded as a jump start and the attempt is repeated.

Does network latency affect my result?

No. Once the page has loaded, the light sequence, timestamps, and score are calculated locally in your browser. Network requests are not part of the timed interval.

What is the estimated reflex score?

It is an entertainment-focused estimate calculated from your five-start measured median minus a bounded model for display refresh and input-device delay. The measured browser score remains visible beside it.

Why do I need five clean starts?

Five valid starts make the result less dependent on one lucky prediction or one slow attempt. The median is used as the measured session score, while the fastest start is shown separately.

Is this an official Formula 1 test?

No. This is an independent, F1-inspired browser game. It is not affiliated with Formula 1, the FIA, any team, or any driver, and it does not reproduce the full clutch, throttle, traction, and vehicle-control demands of a real race start.
