Median is the headline score
The middle of five valid attempts is less sensitive to one unusually fast or slow round than the average.
Consistency shows repeatability
We use the range between your fastest and slowest attempts. A smaller spread means this session was more repeatable.
Compare like with like
Use the same display, browser, input device, and test protocol. A hardware change can move the measured score without changing you.

What Does a Reaction Time Test Measure?
A reaction time test measures the delay between a visual signal and your intentional response. In this five-round protocol, wait for the panel to turn green and then click or tap as quickly as possible. After five valid attempts, the tool reports your median, average, fastest and slowest times, spread, and session consistency. The median is the main result because one unusually fast or slow attempt affects it less than the average. Your result still includes display, input-device, operating-system, and browser latency, so treat it as a browser measurement rather than a direct neurological reading.
How the Five-Round Test Works
Step 1: Click to Start
Activate the test panel to begin a round. The panel enters its waiting state and starts a randomized delay.
Step 2: Wait for Green
Keep your pointer or finger ready, but do not anticipate the signal. The panel turns green after a random delay between 1.5 and 4.5 seconds. An early response is rejected and the round must be repeated.
Step 3: Click as Fast as You Can
Respond as soon as the panel turns green. Complete all five valid rounds, then use the median as your headline score. Review the best, worst, spread, and consistency values to understand how repeatable the session was.
Why Take a Reaction Time Test?
A short visual response test can help you track personal performance, practise staying focused, compare testing setups, or satisfy simple curiosity. The most useful comparison is not an isolated fastest click; it is a complete session repeated under similar conditions. Use the same display, browser, input device, and time of day when tracking change. This tool is designed for entertainment, education, and personal tracking. It is not a medical examination, driver-safety assessment, or certified performance test.
What Is a Good Reaction Time?
There is no single cutoff that applies to every person, device, and protocol. A browser score combines your response with display, input, and software delay, so a result is most useful when compared with sessions completed under the same conditions. The broad rating shown after the test is descriptive feedback for this tool, not a diagnosis. The reference percentile and Reaction Age in your result card are modeled estimates for context.
For a more meaningful baseline, complete several five-round sessions on the same setup and compare the medians. A stable personal range is more informative than one unusually fast click. Factors That Affect Your Score
Age
Age is associated with gradual differences in simple visual response time, but it does not determine one individual score. A calibrated study reported an average increase of about 0.55 milliseconds per year across adults aged 18โ65. Protocol, practice, attention, and hardware still create substantial variation. Use the age-group research table for context rather than treating one browser score as a biological-age estimate.
Hardware and Display
Your measured time includes display refresh, mouse or touchscreen latency, operating-system scheduling, browser timing, event handling, and your own response. One frame lasts about 16.7 ms at 60 Hz and 6.9 ms at 144 Hz, but frame duration is not the same as guaranteed added latency. Keep your setup fixed when comparing sessions.
Alertness and Fatigue
Sleep, attention, distractions, and time of day can change both speed and trial-to-trial variation. To monitor progress, repeat the full five-round protocol under similar conditions and compare medians rather than selecting only your fastest attempts.

Use the complete session instead of choosing only the fastest click. The median and spread show more than a single best attempt.
Keep the setup fixed
Use the same display, browser, input device, power mode, and input method. Hardware changes can move the measured number without changing your underlying response.
Repeat similar conditions
Compare sessions taken at a similar time of day and note sleep, distractions, and practice. Look for a pattern across complete sessions rather than one unusually good result.

Our interpretation is intentionally conservative. Research shows that hardware, protocol, preparation interval, age, and attention can all affect simple reaction-time measurements.
